The FM modulator or FM transmitter is a device used to play your plug-and-play Satellite radio receiver through your vehicle’s FM stereo. FM transmitters can also be used to play other digital audio devices like iPods, CD and MD players.

Normally second choice to an audio cassette adaptor because of sound quality, the FM modulator is still a very quick and simple way to get your plug-and-play Satellite radio receiver working in your vehicle.

Although sometimes only used if all else fails, the FM modulator at least provides an option for listeners who not audiophiles, want an easy way to hook up their receiver, or simply do not have a built-in cassette player in their vehicle.

Enough degrading these devices; there are probably thousands of Satellite radio listeners out there who will tell you that they experience good reception using an FM modulator. However, there is no doubt about it, an FM modulator, if used, can and will on occasions degrade the quality of audio output from your plug-and-play Satellite radio receiver.

An FM modulator converts the audio signal from the plug-and-play receiver into an FM signal, which is then transmitted over an unused FM frequency or station selected by the listener. The limitations of the FM frequency band mean this in no way represents what the signal actually sounds like.

There are two types of modulator available; wireless and hardwired.

The wireless modulator is built-in to a power adaptor that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket, the docking station or cradle that houses the plug-and-play receiver, or, more recently, the plug-and-play receiver itself. The receiver’s audio output is transmitted over the air to an unused FM frequency.

The wireless modulator is convenient, easy to install and configure, but broadcasts only a very short-range signal prone to fading and with interference; comparatively weaker compared to a hardwired modulator.

The hardwired modulator is placed in between the vehicle’s stereo unit and antenna. The modulator connects directly into the stereo’s FM antenna socket to provide a better frequency response and a signal with less interference that is less lightly to fade.

It is recommended that a hardwired modulator be installed professionally, as it requires a connection to the antenna socket on the rear of the vehicle’s stereo and to the electrical system, all located behind the dashboard.

The amount of interference, static and fading you experience, using either of these devices, depends on where you are geographically located in the US, quality of the in-built tuner or broadcast and the type of modulator installed in your vehicle.

For example, somebody living in a major metropolitan area, using a wireless modulator, will no doubt experience poor reception along with the frequent and often debilitating interference from other radio stations.

With regard to sound quality, the wireless modulator rests at the bottom of the pile with the hardwired version above it. However, depending on circumstances, hardwired modulators can be as good as cassette adaptors if not better.

There are other useful definitions in this field, for example, creativity can be defined as consisting of a number of ideas, a number of diverse ideas and a number of novel ideas.

There are distinct processes that enhance problem identification and idea generation and, similarly, distinct processes that enhance idea selection, development and commercialisation. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted.

Good Thinking

Leaders should be wary that good thinking remains at the top of the agenda. Good thinking helps focus problem identification, idea generation and the following drive through the innovation process. Some factors that inhibit good thinking include:

a) Leadership battles. Often the competitive urge for leadership causes some participants to prioritise their position in the hierarchy rather than focus on the best outcome.

b) Ineffectual group dynamics such as core and peripheral groups stop the exchange of information and enhance parochialism, path dependency and competency traps, resulting in inferior outcomes.

c) An emphasis of competition over collaboration. Again, this restricts information flow as opposed to encouraging intellectual cross pollination.

With so many manufacturers and models available in the digital video market, you may find it confusing trying to choose the perfect one for you. Your choice will, however, depend on the features that you want and how much you are willing to spend.

The most important thing to consider is the format in which your videos will be stored, as the video format determines the video quality. Digital 8 otherwise called D8, Mini-DV, DVD and HDD are the main types of video format that digital cameras offer. Both D8 and Mini-DV are tape-based formats, with the Mini-DV currently offering the highest quality video format to consumers. The DVD format allows direct video recording onto a digital disk, while the HDD type uses internal hard drives where the video is recorded. As the tape format is slowly being phased out by major manufacturers, it is a good idea to invest in disk or hard drive based digital video cameras.

Digital video cameras also come with charged coupled device or CCD imaging sensor. Digital video cameras come with 1-CCD or 3-CCD features. Cameras with 1-CCD suffer from poor video quality, whereas 3-CCD cameras produce much better quality videos. Most professional camcorders use the 3-CCD technology, thus making them more expensive than the other models.

The optical zoom feature of the camcorder lens generally ranges from 10X to 20X. The choice of zoom depends on how close you want to get to the action. Some digital video cameras also allow still photography at various resolutions, and some camcorders offer both video and still photography features. Some digital video camcorders have in-built flash for low-light photography, while some video cameras come with a ‘Night Shot’ feature. Other popular options include external flashlights, external microphones and external storage devices that can be attached onto the camcorder.

Camcorders with longer battery strength is also recommended. Digital video cameras have battery life ranging from 4 to 8 hours of continuous shooting. However, using the zoom or any external devices reduce the battery strength.

All cameras nowadays come bundled with a digital video editing software. But if you are not satisfied with the one provided, you can always buy a better and more expensive editing software from Adobe or any other reputable brand.

Video camera prices today vary from $500 to $4000, with Sony, JVC and Canon being the more popular brands.

Do you have to be a bad guy in order to win?

Have you looked at the news lately and felt disgusted? The headlines of today’s
news confirm what we all feel and know in our gut. The headlines I am talking
about are those of CEO’s going to jail for running their corporations into the
financial rocks; ignoring the lighthouse that is beaming it’s light for safe passage
and to fiscal responsibility. All the while it is not the captain (CEO, CFO, etc..) that
goes down with the ship. It’s the crew (workers and their pensions) and the
steerage passengers (the investors). How did it get to become this way? What
happened to the feel good years where it was common to hear “What’s good for GM
is good for the country” is that era long gone? While I have no answer as to why the
Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and the slew of other corporations stole, lied and cheated; I
can say that I feel that these fiascos have their root in greed.

Does art imitate life or is this a case of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Did Dennis
Kozlowski (Tyco’s Chairman & CEO) watch Wall Street 1 time too many? Maybe he
did, perhaps he felt that it was the right thing to do. The sad thing is that he’s not
alone. Other CEO’s share in this greed is good mentality. For all the bigwigs that
have been caught, there are thousands of others that haven’t. Where are the
headlines condemning these men, who have shipped jobs overseas not because of
patriotism but for profits, theirs. If you don’t think this is so look at the rustbelt, go
to Pennsylvania, where are the manufacturing jobs? Personally, I don’t think it
needs to be this way. I believe that I can be happy without having more than my
neighbor. In the very least I don’t need to put or climb over my neighbor in order to
get ahead. My personal feeling is that if I can make a dollar while I help you out
than I have done good for my society. Doesn’t that sound like providing a good
service and or a quality product? Build a better mousetrap and they will come. The
basis of the free market system is competition, which drives innovation.

I have been called a dreamer, that I am unrealistic a nonconformist; All badges that I
wear proudly! Why not reject the current state of affairs and lead by example. Be
the change. Whether you are a clerk in a large corporate machine be the best clerk
you can, excel at your job. If you are a small business owner than provide the best
possible service that you can. At the end of the day you’ll reap the benefits of a
repeat customer, good word of mouth and the positive feelings that you have sowed

monetarily does this mean that you are not a affluent man? The golden rule “treat
others as you’d want to be treated” is my business philosophy. It’s simple yet
obtainable. If I can do this so can you. Imagine that everyone followed our lead,
what would the media outlets report about then?

Confidence through Competence

Blocks can be categorised into two general categories: First, evaluation apprehension and second, structural impediments - such as lack of finance or access to decision makers.

Of the first set, lack of confidence is often related to task incompetence. It follows then that task competence increases confidence. A good example is screenwriting - initially screenwriters take inordinate amounts of time to complete a screenplay, but, following a few completions and even successful sales, they are able to trot them out as quickly as ideas come to them - the words-on-paper-first-draft at least.

Competency (and therefore idea flow and confidence) is increased by:

a) Engaging in the task and thereby refining knowledge, methodology and process.

b) Incrementally setting goals and achieving small successes regularly. Graham Green, the famous author, regularly wrote 500 words a day.

c) Completing the task.

d) Refining the task.

e) Successfully commercialising the task.

f) Engaging in another similar task.

g) Having a set of successful experiences.

The above process is inherent in the expression, “you have to write a million words before you write anything good.” It gradually strips away the subconscious inhibitors that prevent productivity.
